MOUNT VERNON – Cornell College has announced Marie Schutte '06 (tennis), Chet Knake '03 (football/baseball) and Chad Reed '94 (basketball) as members of its 2019 Athletics Hall of Fame Class, to be enshrined this fall.
The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held over Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 26, in conjunction with the Alumni 'C' Club Breakfast. The event begins at 8 a.m. in the Thomas Commons.
The three new inductees will also be recognized at halftime of the Oct. 26 football game against Monmouth College at Van Metre Field at Ash Park. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
Schutte, a two-time Iowa Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, was Cornell's all-time wins leader at the time of her graduation with a 144-56 career mark. She ranks third in program history with 77 doubles wins. Schutte helped lead the Rams to IIAC runner-up team finishes in 2002 and 2004.
Knake, a 2002 honorable mention all-American linebacker, still stands among Cornell's top five for career tackles and tackles for loss. He was a two-time all-IIAC football selection. Knake is Cornell's career baseball leader for runs scored and doubles. He guided the Rams to a program-best 27 wins during the 2003 season.
Reed was a 1993 CoSIDA Academic All-American and recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award in 1994. He helped direct the Rams to a Midwest Conference championship and berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament during the 1993-94 season. The first team all-MWC forward averaged double figures scoring his final three years at Cornell.
