MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team had an offensive breakout in Saturday's dominant 9-0 win over nonconference foe North Central (0-3). The goal tally was the most scored in a game under Coach Jose Fajardo as well as the largest margin of victory in his four seasons at the helm.
The Rams (1-2) scored three times in the first 10 minutes of the game to take control early. Ashley Quesada (SR/Blaine, Wash.) opened the scoring 4:17 into the game. Renee Wuest (JR/Minneapolis, Minn.) scored just over a minute later from long distance, followed by a goal by Sydney Hancox (FR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) just before the nine-minute mark.
Cornell scored three more goals later in the half in a span of just over 12 minutes to take a commanding 6-0 lead into halftime. Quesada scored her second goal of the game after 24 minutes, followed by Sam O'Brien (SO/Evergreen, Colo.) a minute later. Georgia James (SO/Rock City, Ill.) rounded out the scoring in the first half with a great solo effort.
The Rams would score three goals in the second half to win the match. Sydney Hancox scored her second of the game 11 minutes into the half on an assist from Quesada. A minute and a half later, Quesada netted her third goal completing her hat trick from a pass by Sofia Schnur (SR/Redwood City, Calif.). Lily Dahlstrom (SR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) scored the final goal of the game at the 71:06 mark.
Cornell attempted 14 corner kicks to North Central's none. The Rams attempted a whopping 41 shots in the game. Of the 18 players who saw game action, 13 of them had a shot attempt.
Elise Thomason-Larsen (SO/Superior, Colo.) started the game in goal. Nicole Trenholm (SO/Plainfield, Ill.) came in at halftime and completed the shutout for the Rams.
