Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell fell short in tight matches and dropped an 8-1 women's tennis dual to rival Coe Thursday at Clark Racquet Center.
Freshman Noelle Cerone (FR/Steamboat Springs, Colo.) put the Rams (1-1) on the scoreboard with her first collegiate singles win, claiming a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.
The Kohawks (3-2) prevailed in competitive three-set matches at No. 5 singles (2-6, 7-6, 6-2 over Amanda Dragon (JR/Mount Vernon, Iowa)) and No. 6 singles (6-3, 4-6, 10-8 over Makayla Johnson).
Cornell's No. 3 doubles pair of Ashley Mink (FR/Akron, Ohio) and Natalie Brandt (SO/Appleton, Wis.) fell 8-6. The Rams lost 8-3 at both No. 1 doubles (Emmaline Fievet (JR/Bend, Ore.) and Cerone) and No. 2 doubles (Liv Aractingi (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) and Dragon).
