Ram women fall on road to undefeated Wartburg

WAVERLY – Cornell's women's tennis team ran into a tough foe Friday, falling 8-1 to undefeated Wartburg on the road.

The Rams (1-2) picked up their lone win at No. 4 singles, where Ashley Mink (FR/Akron, Ohio) rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-2 decision over Sydney Powers. It was the first collegiate singles win for the Cornell freshman.

Emmaline Fievet (JR/Bend, Ore.) dropped a competitive 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) match at No. 2 singles, while Makayla Johnson fell by a near-identical 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) score at the No. 6 position.

Liv Aractingi (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) (6-4, 6-2), Noelle Cerone (FR/Steamboat Springs, Colo.) (6-1, 6-3) and Amanda Dragon (JR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) (6-1, 6-2) lost their singles bouts in straight sets.

Wartburg (7-0) claimed 8-1 victories at the first two doubles slots. Cornell's No. 3 tandem of Mink and Natalie Brandt (SO/Appleton, Wis.) came up short, 8-3.

Coming up – The Rams conclude their fall season Sunday with a double dual at home against Simpson at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran at 3 p.m.
