MOUNT VERNON – Back on its home court for the first time in nearly four weeks, Cornell's volleyball team made it short-lived Wednesday night with a dominant 25-14, 25-11, 25-13 sweep over Beloit inside the Small Sport Center.
The Rams (15-8 overall) needed only 1 hour, 5 minutes to run their perfect Midwest Conference record to 6-0. They improved to 4-0 in true home matches this fall.
Cornell kept pace with Grinnell atop the league standings with two matches left, which includes an Oct. 27 showdown in Grinnell that will likely determine the regular-season champion.
Freshman
Clare Green set 32 assists for a balanced Cornell attack that hit .314 on the night and more than doubled Beloit (5-15, 1-6 MWC) in total kills, 40-17.
Reigning MWC Offensive Performer of the Week
Rory Light blasted a match-high 10 kills on .421 hitting.
Alissa McEndaffer recorded eight kills,
Grace Marti seven and
Ilah Perez-Johnson and
Olivia Richards six apiece.
Marti posted an efficient .636 attack percentage on 11 errorless swings.
Sydney Meeker corralled 14 digs and served two of the team's seven aces. Light and Green both had four blocks.
The Rams did not allow an ace serve and held the Buccaneers to .012 hitting.
Cornell, which played two Top 20 opponents last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo., will face two more at the upcoming UW-Whitewater Invitational. The Rams meet No. 9 UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by Saturday matches against UW-Oshkosh and No. 11 UW-Eau Claire.
