Doubles sweep steers Rams to 7-2 dual win

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's tennis team swept the doubles competition on its path to a 7-2 dual win over Buena Vista Thursday in the Small Sport Center Arena.

Coach Peter Dumas' senior-less Rams (3-3) set the tone for the meet with dominant doubles play, highlighted by an 8-0 shutout from No. 1 tandem Liv Aractingi (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) and Emmaline Fievet (JR/Bend, Ore.).

Regina Bermudez-Smith (SO/Richmond, Va.) and Amanda Dragon (JR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) were 8-2 winners at the No. 2 position. Ashley Mink (FR/Akron, Ohio) and Makayla Johnson (FR/Westmont, Ill.) cruised 8-3 at No. 3.

Sophomore Bermudez-Smith was joined by freshmen Aractingi, Johnson and Mink as singles victors. Aractingi handled Buena Vista's No. 1 player Rachel Brockney by a 6-1, 6-3 margin.

Johnson rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3) victory at No. 3. Bermudez-Smith claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5, while Ashley Mink won 8-4 at No. 6.
