DECORAH – Senior 174-pounder John Marsh (SR/Denver, Colo.) kept his undefeated season intact as Cornell split a pair of wrestling duals Friday night at Luther's Regents Center Gymnasium.
The Rams (5-2) extended their dual winning streak to four with a 30-18 triumph over Augustana in the opener. Cornell then dropped a 34-9 meet to Luther.
Sophomore Evan Husko (SO/Wauconda, Ill.) at 133 pounds, junior Casey Allen (JR/Gilberts, Ill.) at 165 and Marsh all finished 2-0 to pace the Rams. They accounted for Cornell's three individual wins against the host Norse.
Marsh boosted his season record to 8-0. He pinned Augustana's Frankie Faasen in 2:35 and earned an 8-2 decision over Luther's Tanner Weaver.
Husko scored a pair of decisions, including an 8-2 victory against Luther's Brier Babin. Husko is Cornell's season leader in wins with a 9-1 mark.
Allen (6-3) won by fall in 1:54 against Augustana and capped a perfect night with a 7-1 decision over Luther's Kamden Goering.
Luther earned bonus points in five matches against the Rams, including four falls.
Against Augustana, the Rams received wins from Jonah Kokin (FR/Woodland Hills, Calif.) (forfeit at 125), Husko, Killian Perrigon (JR/Oceanside, Calif.) (11-5 at 157), Allen, Marsh and Trevor Trende (SR/Cresco, Iowa) (pin in 1:01 at 197). Trende's fall was his team-leading fifth of the season.
Cornell freshman 141-pounder Cristian Dixon (FR/Saint Joseph, Mo.) fell from the ranks of unbeatens with two losses via decision, moving him to 7-2 on the year.
Coming up – Cornell competes in a single dual meet against ninth-ranked Augsburg (2-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis, Minn.
