Box Score MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 home meet to American Rivers Conference opponent Loras Wednesday in the Small Sport Center Arena.
No. 6 singles player Ashley Mink (FR/Akron, Ohio) earned Cornell's team point in a three-set battle with Alexandra Oestreich. Mink rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) victory.
Cornell's Makayla Johnson (FR/Westmont, Ill.) hung tough at No. 3 singles. She saved three match points in the second set before eventually falling 6-3, 7-5. At No. 4 singles, Cornell's Regina Bermudez-Smith (SO/Richmond, Va.) was dealt her first loss of the season by scores of 6-1 and 7-5.
Amanda Dragon (JR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) was competitive in a 7-5, 6-3 setback at No. 5 singles.
Loras (7-4) won all three doubles matches, including a tight 8-7 (7-5) decision over Cornell's No. 3 tandem Johnson and Mink. The Ram duo came up short despite saving three match points.
Cornell's No. 1 pair of Liv Aractingi (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) and Emmaline Fievet (JR/Bend, Ore.) fell 8-4. Bermudez-Smith and Dragon lost 8-2 at the No. 2 position.
Coming up – Cornell (4-5) is scheduled to open Midwest Conference play April 15 with a road dual against St. Norbert in De Pere, Wis.
