No. 11 Rams score Senior Day sweep over Lady Blues

MOUNT VERNON – The No. 11 nationally-ranked Cornell Rams continued their undefeated season, sweeping Illinois College twice (25-13, 25-12, 25-12 and 25-17, 25-17, 25-19) in a rare varsity volleyball doubleheader Saturday afternoon inside the Small Sport Center.

Coach Jeff Meeker's Rams raised their season record to 4-0 on a day that started with a Senior Day recognition of Sydney Meeker (SR/Mount Vernon, Iowa), Logan Ealy (SR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Allison Eikenberry (SR/Neola, Iowa) and Danielle Amonica (SR/Las Vegas, Nevada).

The four seniors have helped Cornell win nearly 70 percent of its matches, claim three Midwest Conference regular-season titles and two NCAA Tournament berths. They are now leaders on the highest rated team in program history.

The Rams blasted 69 total kills in the six sets and accumulated 20 blocks. Cornell forced Illinois College into more attack errors (51) than kills (43) over a dominant three hours.

Cornell posted a hefty .356 attack percentage in the opening match. Sophomore Rory Light (SO/Mount Vernon, Iowa) led the team with 10 kills on 24 errorless swings. Ilah Perez-Johnson (FR/Pleasant Valley, Iowa) and Eikenberry both hit over .600, netting nine and seven kills respectively.

Amonica set 30 assists and served three of the team's 12 aces. Rory capped a fine outing with six total blocks.

In the second match, Meeker led all players with 19 digs. The all-American stands fourth on the program's all-time chart with 1,583 digs.

The Rams showed their hitting balance with Alissa McEndaffer (JR/Fort Collins, Colo.) connecting for nine kills, followed by Eikenberry and Perez-Johnson with eight apiece. Eikenberry hit .467 for the match and climbed to ninth place on Cornell's career kills list with 833.

Amonica, who owns more than 1,100 career assists, distributed 25 more in the finale. Perez-Johnson chipped in eight digs.

Coming up – The Rams are on the road Wednesday for a 6 p.m. matchup with 16th-ranked Loras (4-0) in Dubuque.
