PELLA – Sophomore
Greg Pappadakis beat the final horn with only seconds to spare, propelling Cornell to a thrilling 2-1 men's soccer win over American Rivers Conference foe Central Wednesday at Kuyper Athletics Complex.
The Rams (5-2) rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit with a pair of second-half goals to complete the comeback win on the road.
Pappadakis netted the match-winner with just 16 seconds remaining in regulation. It was quite the moment for Pappadakis' first collegiate goal.
George Archer delivered the assist on the decisive play, his team-leading third of the season.
Cornell evened the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute on
Mardoche Ntonku's team-high fourth goal of the season. He was assisted by
Zach Miller.
Freshman
Will Bickel worked the full 90 minutes in goal, collecting three saves and improving his season mark to 5-2.
Central (2-4) held a 16-9 advantage in total shots. The Rams fired four shots on goal, including one apiece from Ntonku, Pappadakis,
Vance Wicker and
Justin Howe.
Winners of five of its last six matches, Cornell carries momentum into Saturday's Midwest Conference opener at 1:30 p.m. at Monmouth.
