MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team suffered a hard-fought 3-2 defeat to the Carleton Knights on a rainy Friday evening on its home turf.
 
The Rams (1-1) found themselves down two goals within the first 19 minutes of the match. Less than a minute after the second Carleton goal, 
Sam O'Brien put Cornell on the board with a left-footed effort from the edge of the penalty area. 
Sanne Croes provided the assist on the play.
 
Seven minutes later, 
Sydney Hancox was fouled just inside the 18-yard box. 
Elise Hermiston took the ensuing penalty kick and sent the Knights' keeper the wrong way to even up the score at 2-2.
 
The winning goal came in the second half at the 60-minute mark by the Knights to finish off the scoring.
 
Elise Thomason-Larsen helped Cornell stay in the match, facing heavy pressure from Carleton (1-0-1). She recorded seven saves to bring her season total to 13.
 
Hermiston and O'Brien accounted for two shots apiece in the match for Cornell. The visiting team held a 20-4 advantage in total shots.  
 
Cornell concludes its opening three-match homestand Sunday at 4 p.m. against Central.
