Rams take No. 17 Millikin to the wire at Grinnell Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRINNELL – NCAA-votes getter Cornell battled No. 17 nationally-ranked Millikin point for point in an ultra-tight 27-25, 25-27, 25-23, 28-26 loss at Saturday's Grinnell Invitational inside Darby Gymnasium.
 
Following their first loss of the season, the Rams (3-1) swept past UW-Superior 25-11, 27-25, 25-17 in the day's finale.    
 
Cornell had opportunities to knock off a top-20 team in a see-saw affair with Millikin that witnessed 31 ties. The Rams relinquished a 19-12 lead in Set 1. They led 22-20 in Set 3, and had a chance to win set point four times in Set 4.
 
Cornell's hitting tandem of Ilah Perez-Johnson and Rory Light produced 34 kills collectively, a match-high 18 coming from sophomore Perez-Johnson. Light posted a .333 attack percentage and had six blocks.
 
Newcomer Clare Green delivered 41 assists and 17 digs for a double-double. Olivia Richards scooped 17 digs, Sydney Meeker 12.
 
Millikin's slight 56-53 edge in kills was indicative of the final scores.
 
Senior Alissa McEndaffer provided a boost against UW-Superior with a stellar hitting match that included 13 kills and a .481 attack percentage. She was errorless on 27 swings.
 
Green reached double digits again for assists (32) and digs (10). Freshman Grace Marti added nine kills and three blocks. Meeker led the back row with 13 digs.
 
Cornell plays host to rival Coe in a much-anticipated Bremner Cup matchup at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Small Sport Center. Both teams are picked to win their respective conferences.
