Trent Schneider.
"I'm pleased with how our players got going from the beginning today," Schneider said. "From start to finish, everyone did great of maintaining a high level of play. It's a good feeling to get win No. 1 on the board early in the season."
The Rams (1-2) made it a clean sweep in singles and did not surrender one set in six matches. No. 2 player
Makayla Johnson and No. 6
Regina Bermudez-Smith did not drop a single point, cruising 6-0, 6-0.
Emmaline Fievet (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1,
Amanda Dragon (6-2, 6-3) at No. 3,
Ashley Mink (6-3, 6-4) at No. 4 and freshman
Josalin McKeever (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 also won their singles matches handily.
Cornell earned 8-1 wins from No. 1 doubles team Fievet and Dragon and No. 3 tandem McKeever and Bermudez-Smith. Mink and Johnson came up short at the No. 2 position, 8-3.
The Rams are home Wednesday for a 4 p.m. nonconference dual against Dubuque.
