MOUNT VERNON - Cornell evened the 2021-22 Bremner Cup All-Sports Series at 1-1 with a 1-0 men's soccer victory over rival Coe in front of big home crowd Monday night.
Men's soccer scored its fifth win over the Kohawks in the last six meetings. The Rams (1-1) have now allowed only one goal against Coe (0-2) in the last five encounters.
Zach Miller broke the deadlock with ten minutes to go until halftime. The Rams won the ball on the Kohawks side of the field with their high pressure. Freshman
George Archer played in Miller, who converted his 1v1 chance against the opposing goalkeeper.
Cornell's pressure resulted in 16 shot opportunities. Miller and Archer led the charge with three each.
Justin Howe,
Cian McNamara,
Andrew Lopez and
Mardoche Ntonku all registered two shots in the match.
Sam Brueck and
Owen Smith rounded out the shots with one apiece.
The Rams defense was tough to break down and only allowed the Kohawks to register three shot attempts for the match, none of them testing
Will Bickel in net.
The two teams will meet again in Cedar Rapids on Sept. 29.
