CEDAR FALLS – Cornell's women's basketball team went up against NCAA Division I University of Northern Iowa Tuesday night, dropping a 97-46 exhibition contest inside the McLeod Center.
Cornell hung with the Missouri Valley Conference foe for the majority of the first half, in which the Rams shot 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from the field. A bucket by
Katelyn Burns brought the Rams within 38-28 with less than four minutes to go before intermission.
UNI, which reached the championship game of last season's MVC Tournament, closed the half on a 10-1 run and led 48-29 at the break. The host Panthers pulled away with a 32-7 third quarter. UNI drained 15 3-point goals in the game.
Junior
Ani'ja Simmons led the Rams with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor.
Kali March netted three 3-point goals and finished with 11 points.
Rachael Adewusi pitched in eight points and hit a pair of threes. Senior
Madison Wauters added seven points and three rebounds.
Mia Murray handed out three of Cornell's 11 assists.
Coming up – The Rams open regular-season play Nov. 9 against rival Coe in Cedar Rapids. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
