MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior all-American middle blocker
Rory Light has claimed the 2022 NCAA Division III season statistical title for blocks per set.
Light, a Mount Vernon native, finished an extraordinary campaign averaging a school-record 1.51 blocks per set, most among Division III players. Randolph's Brooke Murdock was a distant second at 1.39 blocks.
Light wound up No. 3 nationally in total blocks with 143, only 10 behind NCAA leader Paige Havel of St. Thomas (Texas).
As a team, the Rams ranked No. 2 nationally in blocks per set (2.57) and No. 6 in total blocks (259).
The 6-foot Light registered 120 block assists and 23 solo blocks during a terrific final season on the Hilltop, for which she garnered AVCA Second Team All-America honors. She amassed 375 total blocks during her four-year playing career, ranking No. 2 on Cornell's all-time list.
Light finished in Cornell's career Top 10 in nine statistical categories. Her 961 kills rank No. 9 all-time.
