MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's wrestling team got edged by Augustana on tiebreaker criteria, 22-21, in a Senior Night dual that saw several momentum shifts Wednesday inside the Small Sport Center.

Augustana won the final two matches of the meet to even the team score at 21-21. With both teams recording five match wins, the dual was determined by the second tiebreaker criteria of greater number of six-point wins.

Augustana was declared the winner with two falls, to Cornell's one.

Cornell closed the dual season with a 6-4 record. Augustana improved to 9-7.

The Rams had 12 senior wrestlers recognized prior to the final home meet, seven of which were in the starting lineup against the Vikings.

With Cornell trailing 9-0, senior 141-pounder Keegan Schultschik (14-14) put the Rams on the scoreboard with a 4-2 decision over Kameron Hanel. Schultschik earned a reversal and two-point near fall in the opening period and rode Hanel the entire third period for the win.

The Rams strung together four consecutive wins in the middle portion of the meet and built a 21-15 advantage. Senior all-American Killian Perrigon (27-11) started the run at 157 with a fall in 4:57 over Chase Clark. It was Perrigon's 54th career win and 20th pin.

Sophomore Spencer Roth (19-16) dominated at 165 with a 20-2 technical fall over Vinny Querciagrossa. Roth totaled 14 near-fall points in a match that was terminated in 3:44.

Senior Jacob Sherzer (21-13) put the Rams ahead, 18-15, with an impressive 15-3 major decision at 174. Senior 184-pounder Colin Honderd (29-13) was also victorious in his home finale, decisioning Jacob Badger by an 8-3 score for his 62nd collegiate victory.

At 197, Augustana's Clay DeBaillie rallied late and scored a takedown in extra time for an 8-6 sudden victory over sophomore Treyten Steffen (22-19). Steffen had three first-period takedowns to gain control early.

The decisive heavyweight match saw Augustana's Josh Woodrey earn six third-period points for a 10-4 decision over senior Zachary Finn (10-13).

Cornell 133-pounder Evan Husko (23-16) dropped a tight 7-5 match to Trevor Boryla in the closing seconds. Augustana received pins at 125 (Ellex Williams over Nathan Bednarczyk in 5:28) and 149 (Alex Cruz over Klayton Keller in 6:13).

The Rams compete at Dubuque's Spartan JV Invitational at 2 p.m. Sunday in Dubuque. The Lower Midwest Region Championships, hosted by Loras College, are Feb. 25-26 at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque.
