DUBUQUE – Cornell senior Casey Allen kept his title hopes intact in the 165-pound bracket and was among four Rams to advance to Day 2 at the Lower Midwest Region Championships Friday at the Five Flags Center.

The 11th-ranked Allen (29-8), seeded second, picked up a pair of decisions to move into Saturday's semifinals. The 2021 NWCA All-American will face Loras' 13th-ranked Gabe Fiser for a berth to the finals.

Allen opened the tournament with a 9-3 win over Luther's Kamden Goering. He posted a 5-0 quarterfinal victory over Nebraska Wesleyan's Zeth Gerkensmeyer.

The Rams have three wrestlers alive on the consolation side with junior Evan Husko at 133, senior Jacob Sherzer at 174 and sophomore Treyten Steffen at 197. All three went 2-1 Friday and are guaranteed top-eight finishes.

Saturday's action resumes with championship semifinal matches at 11 a.m. All place matches are scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The top three placewinners in each weight class qualify for the NCAA Championships March 11-12 in Cedar Rapids.

No. 8 seed Husko (25-17) moved on to Day 2 with a 3-2 consolation win over Loras' Aiden Evans. He beat Luther's Brier Babin in the first round, before dropping a 12-3 major decision to top-seeded Robbie Precin of North Central.

No. 7 seed Sherzer (23-14) scored two major decisions to extend his season, including a 10-0 consolation win over Dubuque's Thomas McCreadie. Sherzer defeated Huntingdon's Jayson Spencer, 15-5, in the opening round and lost 16-1 to Loras' Jacob Krakow in the quarters.

Steffen (24-20) impressed in his regional debut, starting the tournament with a pin in 4:05 over Millikin's Niles Ager. Steffen lost by fall to Luther's second-seeded Donovan Corn, but bounced back for a 6-0 consolation win over Dubuque's Tyler Thurston.

The Rams had six wrestlers bow out of the tournament in seniors Nathan Bednarczyk (125), Keegan Schultschik (141), Killian Perrigon (157), Colin Honderd (184), Zachary Finn (285) and freshman Landon Card (149). Honderd notched his 21st pin in the consolation round, finishing two shy of Cornell's single-season record.
