Cornell drops Bremner Cup dual in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell had a tough go on the wrestling mat Wednesday night, falling 44-0 to 13th-ranked Coe inside Kohawk Arena.
 
With six nationally-rated individuals in their lineup, the Kohawks (10-5) won all 10 matches and scored bonus points in seven. The Rams dropped to 6-3 in dual competition.
 
The Linn County rivals are now tied at 5-5 in the 2021-22 Bremner Cup All-Sport Series, with men's tennis up next on Saturday in Cedar Rapids.   
 
Cornell senior 174-pounder Jacob Sherzer battled eighth-ranked Tristan Westphal to a 6-4 decision. Sherzer held a 4-3 lead going into the third period before allowing an escape and a clinching takedown.
 
Freshman Landon Card fell 7-2 to 12th-rated Riley Wright at 149. Evan Husko came up short, 9-4, to Anthony Gallagher at 133.
 
The Kohawks scored major decisions at 141 (13th-ranked Brock Henderson 24-10 over Keegan Schultschik), 157 (Brady Henderson 11-2 over Killian Perrigon) and 184 (ninth-ranked Ryan Schott 11-3 over Colin Honderd). Coe's eighth-ranked Alex Friddle earned an 18-2 technical fall over Nathan Bednarczyk at 125.
 
Coe received pins at 165 (Will Esmoil 1:14 over Spencer Roth), 197 (Mathieu Arsenault 3:38 over Treyten Steffen) and 285 (second-ranked Kaleb Reeves 1:03 over Zachary Finn).
 
The Rams compete Friday at Central's Junior Varsity Last Chance Invitational at 5 p.m. in Pella. Cornell's final dual meet is at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 against Augustana in Mount Vernon.
