CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell's
Zoie Harvey and
Miranda Keith both homered in Game 2, although the Rams dropped both ends of Wednesday's nonconference softball doubleheader with Coe, 10-0 and 13-5, at Clark Field.
The Kohawks' Game 1 win gave them a point in the
2021-22 Bremner Cup All-Sport Series, which is now tied 7-7 entering the final competition of the spring.
The battle for the annual traveling trophy between the Linn County rivals will be decided Tuesday in a baseball game at 4:15 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
The Rams (8-23) used the long ball to climb back into Game 2 after spotting the Kohawks (21-11) a 5-0 first-inning lead.
Marissa Faletti's groundout put Cornell on the board and then Harvey cranked a two-run homer to left, cutting the margin to 5-3 in the second.
Keith's leadoff homer to center in the top of the third pulled Cornell to within 5-4. It was the sophomore's first round-tripper of the season.
The Kohawks quickly regained control during an eight-run fourth frame in which they tallied nine hits, opening their lead to 13-4. Keith scored Cornell's final run in the fifth before the game ended.
Cornell totaled nine hits, three coming from

The Rams look ahead to a big final weekend of the regular season. Cornell, which stands fifth in the MWC race at 6-6, hosts Grinnell (9-3 MWC) for two games at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at Monmouth (7-4 MWC).
Cornell needs to win all four games to guarantee a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament. If the Rams go 3-1, they would also need help to qualify.
