NAIA's Mount Mercy stops Cornell women on the road

Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell came up empty on the scoreboard in Thursday's season-opening 3-0 women's soccer loss to NAIA's Mount Mercy at Hadzic Field.
 
Cornell (0-1) stayed with the Mustangs for a half, trailing 1-0 with freshman Sabrina Ibanez tending the net in her collegiate debut. Mount Mercy (1-0) gained breathing room with a second score in the 47th minute and added the final tally in the 84th minute.
 
The Rams fired seven total shots in the match, including two apiece from Elissafe Moreno and Amelia Brown. Georgia James had the team's lone shot on goal.
 
Ibanez gave up two goals in 55 minutes. She was relieved by Krystin Kamrath, who recorded three saves in her first collegiate match.
 
Mount Mercy attempted 10 of its 14 shots after intermission. The Rams had four corner kicks, to Mount Mercy's three.   
 
Coming up – Cornell plays its home opener Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. nonconference match against Edgewood.
