MOUNT VERNON – The No. 24 nationally ranked Cornell Rams volleyball team won 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-11) in their regular-season home finale over Beloit on Wednesday in the Small Athletic Wellness Center.
The Rams (14-6, 4-0 MWC) will carry a five-game win streak into the weekend as they will face national vote-getter UW-Platteville and No. 17 UW-Stevens Point on Saturday.
The Rams dominated the Buccaneers collecting 43 kills as a team with senior
Ilah Perez-Johnson (10) and junior
Kiana Manson (11) leading both teams. Fifth-year
Grace Marti had seven kills as both sophomores
Ella McLaughlin and
Carly Puffer finished with five.
The defense was the difference maker in the game though as the Buccaneers were held to an attack percentage of -0.051 after having 15 kills with 19 errors. This was also the first game of the season for the Rams where they never gave up an ace to the opposing team.
With their win over the Buccaneers, the Rams are tied for first place in the MWC standings with Lake Forest at 4-0. The Rams will face Lake Forest on Friday, Oct. 27 in Lake Forest, Ill. to decide who will sit up top of the MWC.
