MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell men's soccer team battled No. 13 nationally-ranked Carleton down to the wire in a 2-1 nonconference loss at home Saturday.
The Rams (4-6-3 overall) hung tough to the end against Carleton (11-1), the national leader in goal differential which had surrendered only two goals through its first 11 matches this season.
After trailing 2-0 at the half, first-year
Fox Wight put Cornell on the board with an assisted goal from
Brenton DuBoise. The score drew the Rams within striking distance down 2-1 at the 63-minute mark.
Senior goalkeeper
Jeremy Spina and the Rams' defense held Carleton's high-powered attack scoreless over the final 52 minutes. Making his first start of the season, Spina collected seven saves.
The Rams received two shots apiece from
Aidan Lerch,
George Archer, Wight and
Erwann Hiernaux.
