MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell men's tennis team hosted both Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois Tech Saturday at the SAW Arena where they lost both duals, 8-1, to move on to 3-5 on the year.
Freshman Zachary Ong won at No. 3 singles in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, over Carter Burk of Illinois Wesleyan. At. No. 6 singles, freshman Jackson Smock lost to IWU's Griffin Hammond, 5-7, 6-2.
At. No. 2 doubles, Ong and junior Chris Penas-Hull lost 4-8 to Ryan McCoy and Evan Turnbull.
Against Illinois Tech, Smock took the win at No. 5 singles 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 over Rodrigo Casado. Ong came up short at No. 2 singles taking a 6-7 (7-5), 1-6 loss to Davis Housman.
The Rams had Ong and junior Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf at No. 1 doubles where they fell 4-8 to Nabil Fawaz and Allan Torres.
Coming up – Rams will host Augustana College Saturday, Mar. 4.
