MOUNT VERNON – Cornell softball walked off both doubleheader games against Beloit, 1-0 in game 1 and 5-4 in game 2, to keep a clean slate in conference play Friday at Van Metre Family Softball Field.
The Rams remain undefeated in conference play as they move to 11-13, 6-0 MWC on the year with the Buccaneers falling to 8-16, 0-6 MWC.
Game 1 was won behind
Peyton Souhrada's RBI single up the middle which walked it off in the bottom of the eighth for the Rams. Peyton's RBI single scored the only run in the game for either team as the Buccaneers were held scoreless through eight innings.
Freshman pitcher
Daelynn Rhoades received the win in game 1 after pitching eight scoreless innings in a complete game. Rhoades moves to 7-4 on the year after pitching in her fourth complete game this year.
Erin Puck had three hits in game 2 to secure her 100
th career hit in a pivotal seventh-inning comeback for the Rams. Puck went 6-of-8 in the series to move to 38 hits on the year.
Down 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, both
Addie Bowman and Puck bunted to reach with none out. A wild pitch and a fielder's choice by
Caitlin Babcock allowed Bowman to score from third as Buccaneers were late in tagging her at home.
Monet Roelle hit a sacrifice fly deep to right field to score Puck from third as she tied the game with two outs and one on third.
Miranda Keith would pop out, sending out
Claire Gugerty with two outs and one still on.
Gugerty sent a single right between third and short to score the game-winning run for the Rams.
Alyssa Pearson received the win to move to 3-8 on the year after pitching a complete game holding the Buccaneers scoreless through five innings.
