Puck, Keith both homer in Monmouth sweep

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell softball senior outfielder Erin Puck and catcher Miranda Keith each homered in the Ram's 12-4 and 8-3 sweep over Monmouth at Van Metre Family Softball Field on Saturday for Cornell's first multi-homerun game of the year.

The Rams (13-19, 8-6 MWC) are in pretty good shape after their wins over Monmouth (13-23, 5-9 MWC) they are currently standing strong in fourth place as they only have one doubleheader left against Knox to finish the regular season.

Puck's inside-the-park solo homerun led off Game 1 as it sparked a five-run first inning to put the Rams up 5-3 over the Scots. Keith's homerun came in the bottom of the third inning with two outs and two on to cap the seven-run inning.

In Game 1, five different Rams had multi-hit games as the team racked up five extra-base hits. Puck finished Game 1 going 2-of-3 with two runs and two RBIs as Keith went 1-of-3 with one run and three RBIs.

Peyton Souhrada, Claire Gugerty, and Monet Roelle each went 2-of-3 with a run scored and a double in game 1. Souhrada and Gugerty each hit doubles in Game 2 as Souhrada moves to 12 doubles on the year with her fourth in six games.

A six-run fifth inning allowed the Rams to take Game 2 behind seven straight hits, one double, and six singles, to leave the Scots stammering for an answer. The Rams compiled 14 hits with five players having multi-hit games as Keith and Addie Bowman each had a game-high three hits.

Alyssa Pearson pitched both games in completion for a total of 12.0 innings facing 59 batters, grabbing the wins as she moves to 5-10 on the year.

Coming up – The Rams will host Knox at Van Metre Family Softball Field on Saturday for the regular season finale for Senior Day.
