Rams drop first Bremner Cup matchup of 2023-24

MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell women's tennis team opened its season against the visiting Coe Kohawks Tuesday, dropping an 8-1 Bremner Cup dual on the Rams' home courts.
 
First-year players Mac Graves, Tansy Graves, Reagan Hines and Isabella Wallin all made their collegiate debuts for the Rams. 
 
Mac Graves and senior Makayla Johnson secured Cornell's team point at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 victory over Alliandra Hagness and Maddie Schultz.
 
The Rams also played tough in the two other doubles matches. Cornell's No. 2 pair of Tansy Graves/Wallin and No. 3 tandem of Audrey Small/Hines both fell by tight 8-6 margins.
 
Returner Ashley Drake lost 6-4, 6-2 against Jania Carter-Johnson at No. 6 singles, while Small fell 6-4, 6-2 against Sophia Fain at No.3. 
 
Coming Up – The Rams (0-1) host a double dual Saturday, facing Buena Vista at 10 a.m. and MSOE at 4 p.m.
