DAVENPORT– The Cornell men's tennis team fell to the NAIA Saint Ambrose 5-2 on Saturday in a competitive match that saw plenty of close sets and tie-breakers.
The Rams (0-1) barely lost the doubles point to the Bees (3-2) after a win at No. 2 doubles by freshmen
Trent Devore and
Mills Arnolds and a competitive loss at No. 1 by
Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf and
Zachary Ong 7-6 (7-1) in a tie-breaker.
Singles play hosted very competitive gameplay with two three-set victories: Hadler-Strumlauf's win at No. 1, 1-6, 6-3, and 11-9 against Brian Lelm and
Edwin Holyoake's at No. 6, 2-6, 6-1, 11-9, against Connor Leibforth.
Ong fell 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-6 at No. 3 singles to Gianfranco Garcia Medina. Devore lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 to Benedickt Rake, Arnold was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by Febres.
August Krahn lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to Nathan Harris.
Coming up – The Rams will end their fall season by competing in the 2023 ITA Division III Midwest Regional from Friday to Sunday.
