DAVENPORT – Going undefeated in every match on Saturday, the Cornell women's tennis team swept their dual against NAIA Saint Ambrose, 7-0.
The Rams move to 5-3 on the year, garnering their third straight dual win. Cornell has now beaten Saint Ambrose two years in a row after winning a combined 16 matches in both duals combined, out of 18 matches.
This is the third time this year that the Rams have swept all their matches in a dual win. They did so in their 9-0 win over Buena Vista and 5-0 win over MSOE on Sept. 2nd.
At No.1 doubles, partners
Mac Graves and
Makayla Johnson won 6-0 as their teammates
Tansy Graves and
Ashley Mink won 6-3 at No.2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Rams.
Reagan Hines and
Audrey Small won a competitive tie-breaker at the No. 3 doubles spot 7-6 (7-5) to capture all of the doubles matches for the Rams.
With momentum coming from their doubles, the Rams stormed through their singles winning two matches 6-0, 6-0 (
Mac Graves at No. 2 and Johnson at No. 5) and also 6-1, 6-1 (
Tansy Graves at No. 1 and
Ashley Mink at No. 6).
Lastly, Small defeated Paige Owens 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 whilst
Isabella Wallin defeated Audrey Pender 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.
Coming Up – The Rams move further into conference play hosting both the Lawrence Vikings and the Ripon Red Hawks on Saturday. They will face Lawrence at 9 a.m. and Ripon at 3 p.m. at the Cornell Tennis Courts.
