CEDAR RAPIDS – Junior
Aidan Lerch delivered a match-tying goal in the closing moments that helped the Rams salvage a 1-1 draw with the rival Coe Kohawks in men's soccer action Thursday night at Clark Field.
The teams settled the Bremner Cup point after regulation with a penalty shootout, which was won by the Kohawks 3-0.
Coe built its lead to 3-0 in the
2023-24 Bremner Cup All-Sport Series with a Top 25 volleyball matchup looming Sept. 13 in Mount Vernon.
Lerch, who recorded a hat trick Tuesday night, came through again for the Rams (1-2-2) on a penalty kick opportunity with 3:29 remaining in regulation. Lerch's PK was stopped initially by Coe's goalkeeper, although Lerch gathered the deflection and headed the ball into the corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
The Kohawks (0-1-1) scored their lone goal off a penalty kick at the 37-minute mark of the first half.
The Rams held a 10-7 advantage in total shots and had seven corner kick chances, to Coe's five.
Floris Huiskers went the distance in goal for the Rams and recorded one save.
Lerch accounted for four shot attempts, three of them on goal.
George Archer finished with two attempts.
