GRINNELL – Cornell's men's soccer team went down to the wire with another Midwest Conference foe Wednesday, dropping a hard-fought 1-0 decision to in-state rival Grinnell at Springer Field.

George Archer, the Rams (4-10-1 overall, 2-3-1 MWC) hung tough throughout in a physical contest that was determined by a single shot. Grinnell struck for the lone goal in the 52nd minute on a perfectly-placed ball over the keeper's reach.
Cornell slipped to fifth place in the MWC standings with seven points and two league matches remaining. Grinnell (6-4-5 overall, 2-1-2 MWC) jumped to fourth place, one point ahead of the Rams.
The Rams fell just short for the third consecutive MWC match that was decided by a single goal.
Both teams finished with four shots apiece.
