INDIANOLA – Wrestling back-to-back nights was double the domination for Cornell's men's team, which throttled host Simpson for a 49-0 dual win Friday at Hopper Gymnasium.
The Rams (2-1), who handled UW-Platteville 42-6 at home Thursday, recorded their sixth shutout victory in coach
Brent Hamm's seventh season at the helm.
Cornell needed less than one hour to finish off the Storm (0-2). The Rams won seven of the matches with bonus points, highlighted by quick pins from undefeated
Jase Van Pelt at 125 (1:31),
Scotty Scheidecker at 157 (3:44),
Landen Schemmel at 197 (1:54) and 13th-ranked
Jackson Brinker at 285 (1:56).
Van Pelt raised his season record to 7-0. Cornell's eighth-ranked
Cael McLaren won by forfeit at 184, improving to 8-0 as the Rams' other remaining unbeaten individual this season.
McLaren notched his 90th career win, equaling the total by his head coach when Hamm wrestled for the Rams from 2011-15.
At 149, senior
Landon Card (6-2) rolled to a 20-3 technical fall in 3:08. Cornell sophomore 165-pounder
Brian Petry won in similar convincing fashion, posting a 19-3 technical fall in 5:38.
The Rams also prevailed in all three tighter matches on the night. At 133,
Jayden Rael delivered a reversal and takedown, both in the third period, to claim a 5-1 decision over Jonathan Valdez.
