BELOIT, Wis. – Sophomore guard
Heidi Jorgensen scored a season-high 16 points and Cornell's defense stiffened late in Saturday's 53-41 women's basketball win over Beloit at Flood Arena.
The Rams (7-3 overall) stretched their winning streak to six games and climbed to 4-0 in the Midwest Conference. Ripon is the only other MWC unbeaten at 2-0.
Jorgensen finished with four 3-point goals and tallied eight pivotal fourth-quarter points to help Cornell pull away from the Buccaneers (0-10 overall, 0-3 MWC), who hung within 36-35 with less than nine minutes to go.
Jorgensen hit a pair of 3-pointers that ignited Cornell's 17-6 game-ending run in a contest the Rams never trailed.
Cornell held its 10th straight opponent to fewer than 60 points. Beloit shot a chilly 24.1 percent from the field, including 3-of-13 in the final quarter.
