MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men's tennis team had its way against two nonconference foes Saturday, posting identical 8-1 victories over Dubuque and Bethany Lutheran in the arena of the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Rams (5-2) swept all six doubles matches, while
Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf,
Zachary Ong,
Mills Arnold and
Edwin Holyoake all finished 2-0 in singles play.
Hadler-Strumlauf, the reigning Midwest Conference Performer of the Week, boosted his career wins total to 96 after his 4-0 day. He won twice at No. 1 singles, highlighted by a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 comeback win over Bethany Lutheran.
Hadler-Strumlauf partnered with
Federico Polidori for two wins at No. 1 doubles, including an 8-7 (7-1) decision against Bethany Lutheran.
Cornell's No. 2 pair of Arnold/
Trent Devore claimed 8-2 and 8-5 wins. The No. 3 tandem of
August Krahn and Ong rolled 8-1 over Bethany Lutheran and rallied for an 8-7 (8-6) victory against Dubuque.
Ong, Arnold and Holyoake notched straight-set wins in each of their singles victories.
Coming up – The Rams host a double dual next Saturday, Feb. 24, against Simpson at 9 a.m. and St. Ambrose at 4 p.m.
