BELOIT, Wis. – Cornell senior
Ani'ja Simmons posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's 65-57 women's basketball loss to Midwest Conference foe Beloit at Flood Arena.
Beloit (8-13 overall, 6-7 MWC) rallied for 44 second-half points to upend the Rams (8-13 overall, 6-6 MWC), who remained in fifth place in the league race with four games to go.
Simmons was an efficient 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line. Senior teammate
Rachael Adewusi nearly achieved her own double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds in only 22 minutes.
Kali March became the ninth Ram in program history to amass 200 assists in a career. The senior guard dished three assists to go with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.
The Rams hit six 3-point goals, four coming from
Heidi Jorgensen who netted 13 points.
Cornell took a 23-21 lead into halftime. The Buccaneers made 10 free throws during a 27-point third quarter and played with the lead the rest of the way.
Elizabeth Kalk paced Beloit with 19 points and eight rebounds, logging all 40 minutes.
Coming up – Cornell plays host to first-place Ripon (14-7 overall, 11-1 MWC) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
