MELBOURNE, Fla. – Cornell's
Linnea Drever racked up six hits and six RBIs in her collegiate debut Sunday as the Rams split a season-opening softball doubleheader against Fitchburg State.
The Rams dropped the opener, 9-6, but came back to take the nightcap, 8-6.
Drever went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs in the Game 2 victory, which saw the Rams break a 5-5 tie during a three-run fifth inning.
Caitlin Babcock singled home two runs in the decisive frame that gave Cornell the lead for good.
Freshman right-hander
Lexi Ellermeier went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits and only two earned runs while striking out three.
Addie Bowman,
Mary Puffett and Babcock all scored two runs for the Rams.
In Game 1, Cornell's all-conference catcher
Miranda Keith went 4-for-4 with two extra-base hits and two RBIs. The Rams rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Keith's two-run triple.
Drever had three hits and drove in a pair for the Rams, who outhit Fitchburg State 10-8.

Hannah Edwards combined to allow just three earned runs. Fitchburg State took advantage of four Cornell errors in the field.
