| By:
CEDAR RAPIDS – Cornell's No. 7 regionally-ranked men's cross country team showcased their depth Friday night with a runner-up finish at the 28th Annual Mustang Gallop at Seminole Valley Park.

Fueled by a third-place effort from senior Fisher Isaacson, the Rams put eight runners inside the top 30 and totaled 53 points. No. 2 nationally-ranked Wartburg claimed the team crown with 19 points.

This is the eighth time in the last nine years Cornell has secured a top-two team finish at this opening meet.

Isaacson impressed in his season debut, covering the 5K course in 15:27. He was within one second of overall champion Lance Sobaski of Wartburg. Isaacson ran 20 seconds faster than he did last year at the same venue.

Senior Gabe Hunt was Cornell's second scorer, crossing eighth in 15:46. Tyler Bilskie placed 13th (15:56), Gabe Soda 15th (15:59) and Caleb Schopen 18th (16:06) to round out Cornell's scoring five.

Fifth-year Noah Lutzke ran 16:12 for 21st place. Isaak Hutchings (16:24) and first-year Annan Weiland (16:24) finished 28th and 29th, respectively.

Coming up – The Rams travel to Waverly Sept. 7 for the John Kurtt Invitational, hosted by Wartburg.
