MOUNT VERNON –
Sam Burmeister's second-half goal was not quite enough in Cornell's 2-1 nonconference men's soccer loss to Nebraska Wesleyan Sunday at home.
The Rams (2-4) battled their way back from a 2-0 halftime deficit against the Prairie Wolves (5-3), a 10-win team a year ago.
Cornell attempted seven of its 10 shots in the final 45 minutes, including Burmeister's first goal of the season at the 69-minute mark that cut the margin to 2-1.
Aidan Lerch assisted on the play, recording his second helper of the season.
Nebraska Wesleyan scored a quick goal only 2:58 into the match and pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute. The Prairie Wolves managed only four shots in the second half, although were able to hang on.
Cornell goalkeeper
Will Bickel collected four saves in a complete-game effort.
George Archer and Burmeister led Cornell's attack with three shots apiece.
Coming up – The Rams travel to Pella Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. match with Central (2-4-1).
