LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Cornell's women's basketball team continued its winning ways on the road Saturday, holding off upset-minded Lake Forest for a 73-67 Midwest Conference victory.
The Rams stayed alone atop the MWC standings at 5-0 and raised their season mark to 9-4. Cornell is now 6-1 in road games this season
Cornell earned its eighth consecutive series win over Lake Forest (2-11 overall, 1-4 MWC), which rallied late to close within 61-58 with 3:25 remaining. Cornell led by as many as 18 points late in the third quarter.
Freshman forward
Erin Knowles netted a game-high 22 points for the Rams, including a key bucket and free throw that pushed the lead to 64-58. Cornell's
Heidi Jorgensen then put the game on ice with a 3-pointer with 45 seconds left, moving the Rams ahead 67-58.
The Rams had four scorers reach double figures, including
Reagan Wells with 16 points,
Tenley Cavanagh 11 and Jorgensen 10. Wells and Cavanagh each hit three 3-pointers for Cornell, which finished 11-of-30 from long range.
Knowles led all players with seven rebounds, followed by Jorgensen with six and
Maya Hodge with five. The Rams held a 10-point advantage from the foul line, connecting on 16-of-24 attempts.
