Rams push #41 Pioneers to the brink, finish 3rd in MWC race

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRINNELL, IA - Cornell's women's tennis team wrapped up their dual matches for the fall 2025 season this weekend against nationally ranked MWC foes Lake Forest College and Grinnell College. The Rams dropped a 7-0 decision to the #71 ranked Foresters on Saturday, and were narrowly defeated by the #41 ranked Pioneers, 4-3. 

The Rams (10-3 overall, 4-2 MWC) finished third in the MWC standing for the third straight year, behind Lake Forest (5-1) and Grinnell (6-0). Cornell earned a berth to the MWC Team Tournament next May, facing off against Lake Forest in the semifinals. 

On Saturday against the Foresters, the Rams dropped the doubles point, but picked up a win at No. 3 by the duo of Audrey Small and Jenna Benkufsky, 7-6(3). 

Battling tough in singles play, Lake Forest captured all six singles matches. Michaela Clark at No. 1 forced a three-set battle with the 2-time conference MVP, Sofia Strupovets, falling 6-1, 3-6, 1-6. Benkufsky at No. 6 pushed her own match to a deciding third set tiebreaker with Lake Forest's Anika Kinnear escaping with a 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 win. No. 3 player Tansy Graves also battled tough, suffering a 7-5, 6-3 loss.

In a Sunday afternoon showdown against the Pioneers, the Rams started doubles play strong securing the team point. No. 1 duo of Clark and Mac Graves posted a 6-4 win, while No. 2 pair of Tansy Graves and Annika Dox secured a 6-2 win of their own. 

Cornell stayed strong going into singles play. Mac Graves at No. 2 earned a straight set win over Grinnell's Isa Voinescu 6-4, 6-3. Clark at No. 1 defeated Pari Chavan 7-5, 4-6, 10-3. The Pioneers captured the remaining singles matches to clinch the meet and win the MWC title for the 7th consecutive year. 

Coming up - The Rams close out their fall slate with the MWC Individual Championships at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium on October 18-19.
