MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's men's soccer team improved its bid for a Midwest Conference Tournament berth with Saturday's 1-0 home shutout over Monmouth.
The Rams (7-8-1 overall, 4-2-1 MWC) jumped to second place in a hotly-contest MWC race with 13 points and one match remaining next weekend. Cornell leads four teams challenging that are all within three points of the Rams.

Tadhg Thompson found the back of the net on a rocket shot with 57 seconds to go in the first half, which proved to be the game winning goal.
Javier Andrade-Martinez picked up the assist.
The Rams played solid defense in the second half to keep Monmouth (3-8-3 overall, 0-6-1 MWC) off the board. Goalkeeper
Jack Massey picked up two saves in the win.
Cornell (7-8-1 overall, 4-2-1 MWC) had six shots for the game.
Justice Toledo had three shots for the Rams,
Tadhg Thompson two and
Fox Wight one.
