MOUNT VERNON – Within minutes of earning their first Midwest Conference point Tuesday, Cornell's women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 battle to Knox under rainy and chilling conditions in the home finale.
The lone goal of the evenly-matched contest came in the 83rd minute. Natalia Nuno drove a low shot past Cornell's outstretched goalkeeper
Sabrina Ibanez that squeezed into the left corner of the net.
Nuno's kick spoiled a strong defensive performance by the Rams (2-14 overall, 0-7 MWC), who were edged by a single goal for the second consecutive match in league play.
Ibanez finished with five saves over 90 minutes. She moved within five saves of her own single-season school record of 150.
First-year
Mia Belitz led Cornell's attack with three shots, followed by
Gwen Westervelt and
Gracie Lambrecht with two apiece. The Rams had 11 total attempts, four on goal.
Knox (4-9-3 overall, 1-4-2 MWC) finished with 13 shots, nine coming after intermission.
Coming up – Cornell wraps up the season Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Beloit (3-11-2 overall, 1-5-1 MWC) in Beloit, Wis.
