Rams finish regular season with sweep of Wartburg on Senior Day

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell fifth-year Kiana Manson's high-arcing kill brought a fitting end to Saturday's 25-11, 25-23, 25-22 Senior Day volleyball sweep over Wartburg inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.

The Rams (17-10) honored seniors Ella Becker and Manson prior to the match, then notched their fifth consecutive win. Cornell concluded the regular season with 13 victories in its last 16 matches.

In its final tune-up before postseason play, Cornell cruised to a first set victory before facing a 22-13 deficit in Set 2. Spurred by an Ashlin Nottestad kill, the Rams rattled off seven straight points with Nia Howard at the service line. Howard delivered three of her match-high five aces during that run, sparking the Rams to claim 12 of the frame's final 13 points.

Cornell prevailed in a tight third set to defeat Wartburg (15-11) for the first time since 2022.

Nottestad slammed nine kills to lead all players. Ally Olmstead recorded seven kills, two blocks, and an ace. Mia Tubbs added six kills and three blocks. Selia Stein led the block with four stuffs to boost her MWC-best and No. 8 nationally season total to 115.

Playing in her 119th career match, Becker scooped 14 digs. Sully Downey contributed 13 digs. Howard and Grace Tverberg each accounted for 13 assists. Hannah Cantwell whistled three aces.

Up next – Cornell hosts the Midwest Conference Tournament Nov. 14-15. The No. 1 seed Rams play No. 4 seed Illinois College (10-20) in Friday's 7 p.m. semifinal. No. 2 Lawrence (22-10) faces No. 3 Monmouth (12-13) in the first semifinal at 4:30 p.m.
