Parrish, Wilkins and Brinker go 3-0 at Ram Duals

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell men's wrestling faced some tough competition Saturday in the Ram Duals, going 1-2 inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
 
In the opening round #23 Cornell faced off against #24 Luther. Despite splitting the matches 5-5, Cornell fell 23-17. 
 
Luther picked up bonus points in three of their five wins, while the Rams scored bonus points at 184 pounds when Austin Wilkins scored a tech fall against Noah Pettit (15-0).
 
In the second round #23 Rams took on #10 Central. The match came down to 285-pounders tied 18-18. The match was tightly contested with Central's Hayden Hearne pulling out the win over Braydon Hoffman in a tie breaker 3-2, to give Central the win 21-18.
 
The Rams won six of ten matches against Central, with Central picking up bonus points in two matches to one for Cornell.  Brian Petry scored bonus points for the Rams, picking up a pin at 165 pounds in 2:58 over Kevin Hogan.
 
The Rams picked up a win against UW-Stevens Point in the final match of the day, 34-11. Cornell won seven of the ten matches against the Pointers.
 
Picking up bonus points for the Rams were (133) Jayson Stevens with a tech fall over George Ahles (21-3), (157) AJ Parrish with a pin over Connor Schenian in 43 seconds, (165) Petry picked up a tech fall over Caden Young (19-4), (184) Wilkins pinned Zach Canaday in 1:32 and (285) Braydon Hall pinned Gunnar Crowe in 4:56.
 
Senior Jackson Brinker went 3-0 for the Rams, picking up three decisions. Wilkins and Parrish each finished 3-0 on the day for Cornell.
 
Coming up – The Rams travel to Nashville, TN to participate in the Gator Boots Duals. Competition is on December 20.  Matches start at 8:00 am.
