MOUNT VERNON- The Cornell men's tennis team played at home, Sunday afternoon, against Wartburg College. The Rams started the match with a sweep in doubles play, and closed out five of the six singles matches, to complete the win over the Knights, 6-1.
Sophomores Trent Devore and Mills Arnold at No. 1, quickly scored a point, winning their match 6-1. The pairs of juniors Zachary Ong and August Krahn at No. 2 and freshmen Drew Campbell and Sam Cumicek at No. 3 both finished their matches 6-3 to secure the doubles point.
The Rams (6-2) continued to dominate in singles, with swift straight set wins from Devore, Ong, and Campbell at No. 1, 2, and 3; 6-2 6-4, 6-4 6-0, 6-4 6-3, respectively. Arnold at No.4 proved victorious over a tightly contested 6-4, 7-5 match. Krahn pulled out a victory at No. 6, 7-5, 6-1 and senior Edwin Holyoake lost at No .5 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Â
Coming up- The Rams will play on both Saturday and Sunday next weekend, against Maharishi International University on Saturday, 2:00 PM at the Small Sport Center Arena, and will travel to Pella, IA on Sunday to play against Central College at 12:00 PM.
