EAST MOLINE, Ill. – Junior
Cheyenne Mulford paced Cornell's women's wrestling team with a pair of victories on Saturday's opening day of the Quad Cities Division III Invitational.
Mulford scored 5.0 team points with a 2-2 record in the 117-pound bracket, one win short from a top-eight finish. She bounced back from a first-round loss to post consecutive falls on the consolation side.
Mulford pinned Baldwin Wallace's Victoria Bernard in 4:56. She then decked UW-Stevens Point's Angelica Torres Lima in 3:35. Mulford bowed out of the tournament with a 14-3 loss to Wartburg's Danielle Silva.
Freshman
Ciara Gomez-Bryant finished 1-2 at 131 pounds, highlighted by a consolation pin in 2:11. It was her team-leading fifth fall of the season.
Junior 145-pounder
Olivia Cotton posted a 10-0 technical fall in the consolation round and finished the day 1-2.
The Rams were 20th in the 31-team field with 8.0 points after Day 1.
