EUREKA, Ill. – The Cornell softball team went on the road Saturday to take on Eureka College at Sweitzer Field. The Rams came away with the doubleheader sweep, winning game one 12-1 in five innings and taking game two 10-0 in five innings.
Cornell (5-6) scored twice in the first inning of game one.
Miranda Keith and
Peyton Souhrada, both had singles in the first frame to jump start the Rams.
In the third inning the Rams put the game away, scoring seven runs on four hits.
Monet Roelle,
Brianna Risley,
Addie Bowman and
Elise Oleson all picked up hits in the inning to help Cornell pull away from the Red Devils (2-6).
In game two the Rams scored two in the top of the third on five hits. Roelle started the inning with a single, Risley doubled to center field and
Brooke Furman picked up two RBI's with a double to deep center.
Alexa Corona and Bowman also picked up hits in the inning.
Cornell put the run rule in effect in the top of the fifth, scoring eight runs on seven hits. Oleson had a three-run homer to center field.
Linnea Drever knocked in two with a double to right field and Roelle had an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to help the Rams seal the victory.
In game one
Lexi Ellermeier went the distance giving up one run on four hits, striking out three batters. The Rams scored their 12 runs on nine hits. Risley went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Bowman and Roelle each added two hits.
In game two
Hannah Rhoades threw the complete game giving up only one hit and allowing zero Red Devil runs. Rhoades struck out five. Cornell scored 10 runs on 13 hits. Furman was 2-for-2 with two doubles, scored two runs and drove in two.
Lilly Dierkes, Corona and Bowman each contributed two hits. Oleson drove in three runs with her second home run of the year.
Coming up – The Rams play two games on Sunday against University of Dubuque. Game one starts at 1:00 p.m. at Van Metre Family Softball Field in Mount Vernon.
