MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's tennis team returned to their home courts hosting a triangular against Loras College and the University of Northwestern (MN) on Saturday. The Rams dropped a 5-2 decision to Loras in the morning, before bouncing back to defeat the Eagles 5-2 in the afternoon dual.
Cornell not only battled on the court, but also battled cancer in their annual cancer awareness match. A tradition that started in 2024, the Cornell tennis programs dedicate a match each season to people all over the world who are fighting cancer, and honor those family members and friends close to the programs who are fighting.
In the morning match against the Duhawks, No. 1 doubles pair of
Tansy Graves and
Mac Graves claimed the lone doubles match for the Rams, prevailing 6-3.
Cornell battled tough in singles, winning two matches to claim the two points for the team.
Mac Graves at No. 2 won in straight sets, while
Jenna Benkufsky finished off her match in a third set supertiebreaker at No. 6.
Shifting gears to face the Eagles in the afternoon, the Rams this time secured the doubles point. The Graves sisters won their third straight match at No. 1 (6-4), and the No. 3 duo of Benkufsky and
Alyssa Flynn powered through to a 6-3 win of their own.
The Rams won four of the six singles matches.
Tansy Graves at No. 1,
Mac Graves at No. 2 and Benkufsky at No. 6 all claimed straight set wins. Flynn at No. 4 escaped with a third set supertiebreaker win for the Rams final dual match point.
Audrey Small and
Isabella Wallin both fell in third set tiebreakers.
Mac Graves enjoyed a 4-0 day individually. She cracked the top 15, and moved into a tie for ninth on the single season total wins list in program history at 40 and counting.
Tansy Graves and Benkufksy finished their Saturday each going 3-1.
Coming up – The Rams host Bethany Lutheran College next Friday, March 28th. First serve is set for 1:15pm.
