RIPON, Wis. – Cornell's softball team fell 5-0 to first-place Ripon in the opening game of Sunday's Midwest Conference doubleheader at Tracy Field.
Game 2 was suspended due to weather with the teams tied 4-4 through five innings. The game will resume at a date to be determined.
Cornell (10-16 overall, 2-5 MWC) gave away two unearned runs in the third inning of Game 1, helping Ripon (8-15 overall, 6-1 MWC) build a 3-0 lead. The Red Hawks added a single run in the fifth and sixth frames.
The Rams managed five hits, including a double from
Brianna Risley. Cornell left seven runners on base.
Starting pitcher
Lexi Ellermeier (3-6) allowed four hits and three runs in three innings.
The Rams got their offense going in Game 2, totaling 10 hits in their first five at-bats.
Linnea Drever was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, while
Kloi Barney also had two hits.
Drever's RBI double put the Rams ahead 4-0 in the top of the third. The Red Hawks responded and tied the score at 4-4 with one run in the third and three more in the fourth.
Hannah Rhoades fired five innings in the circle before the game was halted. She allowed four hits and walked just one.
Coming up – The Rams travel to play Illinois College (15-15 overall, 6-2 MWC) Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Jacksonville, Ill.
