APPLETON, Wis. – Cornell's women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped against Midwest Conference unbeaten Lawrence, 61-40, Wednesday night at Alexander Gym.
The battle between the league's top two scoring defenses got away from the Rams (7-5, 1-3 MWC) during a 10-minute stretch in the first half when Lawrence (11-2, 4-0 MWC) reeled off 20 unanswered points. The Vikings then put the game out of reach with a 20-7 third quarter spurt.
Cornell sophomore star
Erin Knowles registered her third double-double in as many games with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also led the team with three assists and two steals.
Caroline Kron contributed 12 points behind 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.
Maggie Thompson added five points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Cornell limited the Vikings to 30.2-percent shooting. However, Lawrence attempted 18 more field goals and went 18-of-20 from the free throw line.
The Vikings pressured Cornell into 25 turnovers, converting them into 15 points.
Coming up – The Rams are home Saturday to face Lake Forest (2-11, 0-4 MWC) at 3 p.m. in the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
